Is One Website Enough?
There is a lot of controversy about
having multiple websites. Some folks seem to
think that having one very good website that
is producing an income is good enough. They
just keep working on that one website and
increase their income little by little.
That might be good at the time. If the
site is making money, why wouldn't you just
concentrate on that site and keep going on
the same course?
Well... consider this:
What if that site stops making the money
you are used to? Here is a true story that
just happened to me that made me realize why
diversification is so important.
I have many, many websites. One in
particular is an alternative health website.
I use a well known herbal product
affiliate program to make money on this
site. This particular affiliate program was
paying a nice commission of 50%. I was
getting real nice checks every month from
this site.
All of a sudden, out of the clear blue,
this affiliate program decided to reduce
commissions to 20%. WOW! That was a huge pay
cut. If you do the math... 50% commission
was 100% of my income from that company. A
30% reduction in commission is actually a
60% pay cut. That makes a $10,000 monthly
income into a $4000 monthly income. Ouch!
Now, what if this was my only website? I
would be scrambling at this point, trying to
recover the $6,000 monthly income loss.
Trying to create a new site, get it indexed,
get traffic to it and make $6,000 in sales
all in the first month.
Fortunately, I have a lot more websites.
All of them are indexed and all of them
receive traffic. The hard part is done. Now
all I have to do is sell more stuff on these
websites. A much easier task.
The visitors on these sites already know
me. I have already built a relationship with
them. I will have a much easier time getting
them to buy from me than I would if I were
trying to start from scratch.
How many websites are enough?
That depends on how much money you want to
make.
Like I said before, I have a lot of
websites. Some of these sites make a couple
bucks a month. Some make thousands of
dollars each month. The point here is, I
don't have to worry if one of the sites
slows down or stops producing money. I have
plenty other sites to fall back on.
I don't know how many sites will be
enough for me. As long as I continue to make
sites and they continue to make me money, I
don't think I will ever find a reason to
stop adding more websites to my business
portfolio.
You never know which site is going to hit
it big or which website topic will become
important in the future. I believe having as
many websites as I can possibly produce, on
as many different topics as I can think of,
is the answer to internet wealth.
